Comprehensive english tutoring
Session 0
Before starting, I will request writing samples. After analyzing and evaluating the student’s work, I will request a conference with both the student and parent(s) to gauge areas of need and create an action plan.
Grammar
Students will gain mastery of grammar conventions, to not only ace standardized tests, but also to selectively do away with them when writing to avoid rigidity.
Essay-writing
Students will become proficient in writing well-structured essays with a thorough pre-writing process. They will also be effective in incorporating research to add credence to their arguments.
Reading
Students will interact with a diverse range of text to foster a love of reading and a general deep curiosity.
College Application coaching
Personal Statements
In traditional schooling, students are tasked with mainly analyzing literature and unpacking case studies. Suddenly, they are asked to write creative writing and/or memoir pieces for college applications. To bridge this gap, I lead students through a bevy creative writing exercises and select readings.
Coaching/Research
I breakdown what admissions look for in exemplar applications. Moreover, I guide students in researching both universities and liberal arts colleges. I help them dive deeper into what makes each program special, specific career and learning pathways to explore, and specific school resources to take advantage of.
Personal development
Emotional/Social intelligence Development
Students will explore equally important forms of intelligence to become well-rounded individuals. They will do so through reflection questions, goal-setting/tracking, habit formation and locus of control exercises, and discovering what best motivates them.
Creative writing
With story-telling being essential for successful job interviews, presentations, personal statements, and networking, students will work on a diverse range of writing exercises.
Networking training
Students will receive guidance in asking for mentorship and opportunities. If their interests align with my network, I will connect them to relevant individuals.
Public speaking
Students will have the option of presenting well-researched presentations in front of a seasoned veterans in their respective fields.
Media recommendations/deep-dives
Based on their interests, students will be given movie, tv, music, book, and article recommendations to explore on their own time. This will serve as a pathway to deeper content knowledge.
